You Cannot Blame God

I used to blame God for things that had happened to me or things that occurred in my life that deeply affected me. Most people do. Growing up in abusive homes, living in abusive marriages, poverty, sickness, struggles...whatever the case may be, we often wonder "Why did God allow this to happen to me" or "Where was/is God". More often then not it breeds anger, resentment, discontent and distrust of God and we move farther away from Him. But we can't blame God for the sin of others. We can't blame God for our own sin. We can't blame God for consequences that always follow choices we've made. When we have to stand before Him there will be no excuses that anyone can offer. No amount of "blame" will work in our favor. God didn't create sin, God doesn't condone sin, God hates sin whether it's our own or was thrust on us. We cannot blame God for what's happened to us...

God knew we would sin. Even Christians sin. How can it be just for God to allow us to burn in hell eternally for sins in our very short lives?

Is it not evil to stand by and let bad things happen when it is in your power to stop them happening?

Hi contrararian. Thanks for commenting. You're question is one that most people. All people are born sinful. From conception we are already tainted by sin. Psalm 51:5. We are born depraved & hostile toward God. No one is good Romans 3:10. Even our most righteous acts are as filthy rags to God Isaiah 64:6. There's nothing we do that isn't sinful. Based on this alone God would be completely just sending everyone to hell. He created man perfect & good in a perfect world, man chose to sin & he took the entire world with him. Not even space is pure to God Job 15:15. We live in a fallen world that has become increasingly wicked as man increased on the earth. The fact that God saves anyone demonstrates His patience and mercy. He takes no pleasure in the death of anyone Ezekiel 18:32 God is angry at the wicked and wickedness every singly day Psalm 7:11
If God acted immediately on sin there would be no one left. He's patient not wanting anyone to perish. Each day we live is not just mercy b/c it's more time to repent, but it's also filling up our cup of wrath. He's giving us time to repent, turn away & turn to Him. If we don't, we stack up our own judgment. When God doesn't strike us dead instantly we don't see that as mercy and giving us time to repent. In our sinful minds, we think He's-
1. Just like us
2. Doesn't mind
3. Doesn't care/indifferent
This is what God says-
“What right have you to tell of My statutes
And to take My covenant in your mouth?
For you hate discipline,
And you cast My words behind you.
When you see a thief, you join in with him,
And you associate with adulterers.
You let your mouth speak evil
And your tongue frames deceit.
You sit and speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
These things you have done and I kept silent;
You thought that I was just like you;
But I will rebuke you and state the case in order before your eyes. (Judgment)
Now consider this, you who forget God,
Or I will tear you to pieces, and there will be no one to rescue you.
Psalm 50

Life is a vapor. It's very short, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to what's to come. God puts great emphasis on this, warning us repeatedly that it is short so we must consider where we're headed. We live each day wrapped up in making this short life awesome & completely ignore eternity to come. This short life is going to determine how we spend eternity. God drives that point home over & over again.
He is a righteous Judge. Even in our own courts, no one faces justice immediately. How many times have we gotten away with something before we're ever caught? Even when people are caught the odds that anyone will face justice for every crime (from running a red light to murder) is nil. That's not the case with God. We will all stand judgement for not just every deed, but every word we've ever spoken & every thought.
He doesn't rejoice in anyone suffering, but He does utilize it to bring people to look up. It grieves God (genesis 6:6) to look at His creation & see what we've done. Grieving used in the Biblical sense literally means to gasp, hyperventilate, sob, choke. Sin, that began with us, and it's entire effect on the world brings suffering & all of creation is described as a woman in hard labor just waiting for God to execute justice. And He will. We can just look around and see He's at the door.
I also encourage you to read these posts of mine found in the Table of Contents at the top of this page. I go in depth in these areas & maybe they will give you more understanding. I apologize, I'm unable to post links in comments

Hi Ariel

Thanks for your reply.

First, I take it you are telling me your understanding of all this. Or am I wrong? Are you speaking definitively for God here?

If God is omnipotent, then He knew in advance that billions of people would not be saved in their lifetimes and that they would therefore spend eternity being tortured in hell.

I really fail to see how that behaviour could be described as being anything other than psychotic.

How do you answer that? Isn't a better explanation that Christianity cannot be the only route to God?

If your answer is that "God can do what he wants" then God is surely indistinguishable from a tyrant. If you felt God was telling you to put babies feet first into a whirling blender, you would have no choice but to do that...

If you are telling me that God cannot be in the presence of sin, then you are telling me He is not omnipotent.

Finally, science tells us that the Bible is not an accurate history of the world in a large number of ways. If we can't trust it on matters of history, how can we trust it on matters of salvation?

The fact that you came to this blog by way of "cannot blame God" plus the tone of your comment tells me you're looking to pick a fight because you're angry for whatever reason. Secondly, I gave you the Bible, not my personal opinion. My personal opinion often runs contrary to the Bible as does all of humanities, thus we find ourselves in a battle with God's Word and demands. Most choose their own opinion and want to live without consequences while demanding God be held accountable. Everyone wants justice, but that would include justice against us as well for our own wrongs. We want to escape the fallout, but we want God to face them. Isn't that hypocritical? "If I can convince myself there's no God then there's no judgement and I can live however I choose and force others to accept it". Problem is the world was still round even though most believed it was flat. He's still enthroned whether anyone wants to accept it or not. Third, God doesn't send babies to hell or those who are mentally disabled and can't choose between the right and the wrong (Jonah 4:11), though He would be absolutely just in doing so if He chose to. You speak of science as if it's a separate entity. You mean "man" not science. Imperfect, prone to fall "man". If science is the answer why do we have so many deaths by way of medications? Why can't it save the cancer patient? Where's the cure for the common cold? 3 years ago "science" claimed milk and coffee caused cancer. Today it doesn't. Tomorrow it will be something different then it will be withdrawn. Science is based on theories which are only educated guesses through trial and error. Any honest scientist will admit that. It takes a whole lot more faith to not believe in a God and trust man than it does to believe in God. Man has been trying to disprove the Bible for millenniums and haven't been successful yet. I use to view Christianity as you do, but alas, here I am. In any case, if you're seriously seeking answers then there is a lot of material here for you to read. Have a great week and God bless.
