Amos 3:3 says "Shall two walk together, except they have agreed?"
Despite the sound doctrine John Piper teache,s he is obviously in agreement with Rick Warren. That's a dangerous situation. John Piper has thrown many into confusion and, because they trust him, they're following him down a slippery slope and not trusting God and what He says.
We need to be careful with following others just because they have sound doctrine. We're to obey God over men and when fallible men start traveling down a path, when that path clearly goes against scripture, then we must come out and be separate no matter how much we like a teacher or how good their doctrine is. (2 Corinthians 6:17) When we know someone has sided with error and we continue to follow after them then we are in sin.
Satan has good doctrine too. He knows Scripture better than we do. Now that we know Piper is in agreement with Warren...he must be removed from among us and pray for him. It may lead to his repentance.
"What do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14

Thank you for your post on John Piper as to whether or not he is apostate. The term is used in Hosea 14:4, but clearly it is not necessarily an irrecoverable status of defection. If that were true, God could not heal them. But the Hebrew term means "backslidden" according to Strong Concordance, or, "wayward" according to another famous Hebrew Scholar Gesenius. So if that is what the Bible says the word means, that trumps what Baker's Dictionary defines. Therefore, if we rightfully invoke the biblical meaning of the term, Piper is apostate, but can repent, though he refuses correction to date. I also invite you to scroll through the comments. For Piper has called those who oppose Rick Warren's PDL book "slanderers", but has fail to produce a shred of documentation against me or at least a dozen authors who have exposed Warren's teachings.
This is the Scripture that applies to Piper, and therefore, why he must be marked and why Christians must separate from him:
" Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into [your] house, neither bid him God speed:
For he that biddeth him God speed [NIV renders it "he who WELCOMES him"] is partaker of his evil deeds." 2 John 1:9-11
Therefore,how can it even possibly be argued that Piper has not welcomed and promoted Warren?
